As long as the combination of young adults and automobiles has existed, there has been need for clever and unique ways to teach responsible and courteous driving. Fortunately, Verizon Wireless and Fablevision have teamed up to create a video that will, ultimately, attract kids with its teenage appeal and non-condescending delivery. As a teacher, I know that the approach we use in teaching anything is just as important as the information we are passing on, so having such an important lesson taught using a format that will appeal to kids is an accomplishment we teachers are quite thankful for. Studentswilappreciate and enjoy the humor and quality of the animation while learning an important lesson about safe driving.
The vIQ video craftily uses animated characters in driving situations that require quick and thoughtful decision making in regard to cell phone use and driving. The situations combine a good balance of humor and realism that will appeal to young drivers without being too "heavy". Driving safely and knowing when and how to use your cell phone are taught in a light hearted way, but with deep meaning.
From one teacher to another, vIQ is an excellent tool to use with teenage children learning to drive. It is a wonderful supplement to driving instruction and conversation about safety and cell phone use.Driver's Ed class has never been so much fun!
