Domestic violence affects nearly one in four women, one in seven men and more than three million children in the United States. Through its HopeLine program, Verizon is committed to raising awareness of this very serious issue, which is why Verizon recently made a $15,000 donation to the New Orleans Family Justice Center (NOFJC).
This donation marks the latest in Verizon’s long term relationship with the NOFJC. It will go toward helping the organization to provide support services, such as emergency housing and counseling, to survivors of domestic violence and their children.
“We know that for decades, the New Orleans Family Justice Center has made a difference every day through the professional, compassionate and empowering support provided to victims and survivors of domestic abuse in the Crescent City,” said Dana Venezia, Verizon Wireless associate director and member of the NOFJC Board of Trustees. “I am very proud of the work this organization does, and it’s because of this work that Verizon has made a $15,000 commitment to the New Orleans Family Justice Center.”
In addition to New Orleans Family Justice Center president Pamela Jenkins and executive director Mary Claire Landry, Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro, also a Board member, and New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas were on hand to accept the donation.
The gathering at the New Orleans Family Justice Center also served as an opportunity for Venezia to remind the New Orleans community to participate in Verizon’s HopeLine program. “We want people to know that they can help our partners at the New Orleans Family Justice Center and all impacted by domestic violence by donating no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories to HopeLine from Verizon by dropping them in the mail or at a Verizon store,” she said.
HopeLine from Verizon then turns the phones into vital links for domestic violence victims and survivors to reach emergency or support services in times of crisis and stay connected with employers, family and friends. To learn more about the HopeLine program click here.
