During the first half of 2015, greater Phoenix has played host to some of the nation’s most visible events, from the Super Bowl to the largest professional golf tournament on the PGA TOUR to baseball’s Spring Training.

The Super Bowl alone generated more than $719 million in total economic impact for greater Phoenix according to a study by Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business.

In fact, the economic impact is probably far greater thanks to a long-term investment made by Verizon Wireless to provide Valley of the Sun residents and visitors with a wireless network they can rely on during the major events, and also in their everyday lives. Demand for wireless data services has nearly doubled over the last year and is expected to grow 650 percent between 2013 and 2018, according to Cisco.

Among the investments made in the first half of the year, Verizon quadrupled its 4G LTE wireless data capacity throughout the Valley. The company also built a network of small cells to add capacity and improve in-building coverage to stay ahead of high call volume and high data usage in downtown Phoenix and in north Scottsdale including the Kierland and Promenades shopping and business districts.

In addition, the company added indoor antenna systems inside the Phoenix Convention Center and Symphony Hall, Cityscape, the Hyatt Regency and the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown.

Verizon also added cell sites serving customers in the areas of:

  • Chandler in the Chandler Fashion Center and around the Loop 202 and Price Road
  • Mesa at Ray and Power Roads
  • Phoenix in the Desert Ridge, State Route 51, Loop 101 intersection; and at 56th Street and Bell Road
  • Tempe at Priest and University; and off Rio Salado Parkway

With greater Phoenix’s continued population growth and influx of visitors, Verizon will keep investing to provide a network that allows customers to do what they want, when they want, wherever they want.
