International Rates

While traveling in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands, text or multimedia messages sent or received from mobile numbers in those countries and Mexico are charged standard domestic rates and will be applied against the monthly messaging allowance of your plan, if you have one.

Messages sent or received from mobile numbers with participating carriers in other countries are charged international rates, and will not be applied against any monthly messaging allowance.

  • What are International Long Distance services?

    Make calls from the US to many other countries using your mobile phone. If you only call from the US to other countries occasionally, you can pay per minute. If you make international calls frequently, you should consider our Call the World, Call Mexico and Canada or the International Long Distance Value Plan. International Long Distance services are only for making calls to another country while in the US. For information about plans and rates while you re traveling outside the US, visit our Global Services page and Trip Planner.

    Note: Making international calls from the US to certain countries may be restricted due to a variety of reasons. However, you can always place an international call from your mobile phone using a calling card.

  • What is the difference between a landline terminating charge and a mobile terminating charge?

    The charge for a call or message from your mobile device to a landline is called a landline terminating charge. The charge for a call or to send a message from your mobile device to a mobile (wireless) number is called a mobile terminating charge.

    The charge for an International Long Distance call will include the airtime charge from the price plan in addition to the per minute rate based on what type of phone answered the call.

  • Are there any service requirements to make International calls from the US?

    It depends on the country you wish to call. The International Long Distance (I-Dial) feature must be activated on your account to make international calls from the US to some countries, but several countries may be dialed direct without adding International Long Distance.

  • How do I add the International Dialing feature to my plan?

    In order to add the International Dialing feature to your plan, you must first meet the eligibility requirements. Eligibility requirements include minimum payment history and contract term requirements. If you are eligible to add this feature, you'll be able to do so from the Change Calling Plan page on My Verizon or through the Change Features section on My Business. If you're not eligible, the feature won't be available to choose.

  • What is the Call the World Option for International Long Distance calling?

    Call the World is an International Calling Option that gives a shared 1,000 minute allowance between all the phones on your account. The allowance minutes can be used to cover your international long distance calls to over 200 countries worldwide. If you go over the 1000 minute allowance, a charge of 10 cents per minute will be applied. For more information, including rate and coverage information, visit our International Long Distance page. Domestic airtime usage also applies.
