CHARLOTTE, NC — Verizon Wireless, formerly Bell Atlantic Mobile, and SFX, the world's largest producer, promoter and presenter of live entertainment, have teamed up to announce the new name-in-title sponsor of the Blockbuster Pavilion in Charlotte.

Effective immediately, the venue will be named the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. "Verizon Wireless is connecting the Carolinas through the latest wireless products and services," said Jerry Fountain, president, Verizon Wireless, Carolinas Region. "The Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre will also connect the Carolinas through a venue that offers the latest concerts and live entertainment. This is the perfect fit for a brand that prides itself on getting people to connect and 'Join In.'"

Built in 1991, Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre is a state-of-the-art outdoor amphitheatre that is in its second decade of providing the most talented and eclectic entertainment of its kind. Artists that have performed at the venue in 2000 include Britney Spears, Pearl Jam, Sting, Santana and the Dave Matthews Band. Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre is located in the heart of the University area, 10 miles north of uptown Charlotte.

"We are delighted about our Verizon Wireless affiliation," said Della Rowser, executive director of the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. "This is a new era for the amphitheatre, Carolina music fans, and SFX in Charlotte. SFX and the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre will continue to present the top names in the music world to residents of North and South Carolina."

"The Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre has become one of the premiere destinations for quality entertainment in the southeast region," added Rodney Eckerman, Co-CEO of SFX Music Group. "SFX has had tremendous success with its relationship with Verizon Wireless at both its Los Angeles amphitheatre, and more recently in Indianapolis, and we expect similar results in Charlotte."
