Verizon Wireless Opens New 'Store-Within-A-Store' At BJ's Wholesale Club In Batavia, New York

BATAVIA, NY — Verizon Wireless has expanded its local retail presence with the addition of a new store in the BJ's Wholesale Club in Batavia. The new store is located in the BJ's location at 8330 Lewiston Road. The "store-within-a-store" concept provides BJ's customers with easy access to the latest wireless phones, devices and accessories, plus a variety of service plans on the nation's most reliable wireless network.

The new Batavia store joins 18 other Verizon Wireless kiosks that have opened in BJ's locations throughout Upstate New York. The new kiosk will create five new retail sales and management jobs locally. Nationwide, Verizon Wireless kiosks in more than 130 BJ's Clubs created more than 600 new jobs.

The new Batavia Verizon Wireless store in BJ's Wholesale Club is open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 9 pm, and on Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm.

"Today's busy lifestyles require all of us to combine errands and shopping trips whenever possible," said Ken Dixon, president of Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York Region. "Our new BJ's location is an important part of our effort to meet our customers where they shop. By placing Verizon Wireless employees in BJ's locations, customers get added convenience and assistance from the best wireless salespeople in the industry."

BJ's members will be able to take advantage of the same convenient services available at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores, including account look-up and bill payments. Verizon Wireless will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the BJ's kiosk, including hiring, inventory, displays and any interior or exterior signage. BJ's members can expect the same high-quality products and services they would receive in a standalone Verizon Wireless Communications Store.

Demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the fourth quarter of 2005 as the company added 2 million net new customers, the largest customer growth in the industry. Verizon Wireless now serves 51.3 million customers nationwide.

Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion - on average $5 billion every year - since the company was formed six years ago to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new capabilities. In the Upstate New York area, Verizon Wireless has invested nearly $500 million in its wireless network in the past three years to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's voice and data services, including two-way TXT Messaging, Picture Messaging, BroadbandAccess high-speed wireless broadband service with download speeds averaging 400 to 700 kilobits per second, and the new V CAST multimedia service which allows customers to view more than 300 crystal clear video clips daily from the hottest names in entertainment, news, sports and more in the palms of their hands.

Including the new BJ's location, Verizon Wireless owns and operates two retail locations in the Batavia area and 89 across Upstate New York.
