COLUMBIA, SC — Wireless services provider Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile announced today that it has launched the wireless industry's most sophisticated digital cellular phone service in Columbia. The new offering, called DigitalChoice , delivers improved call clarity, greater battery life, and is the only digital wireless system in the area to also offer the convenience of service wherever you may travel in North America.

"The sound quality is so good that people won't believe you're on a cellular phone," said Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile's vice president-southeast region, Jim Akerhielm. "With Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile, you get the best of both worlds. Unlike other provider's services, you can use our digital service in Columbia, Greenville, or Charlotte, then hop on a plane or drive outside the area and use its analog capability anywhere in the U.S."

In addition to coast-to-coast coverage, customers who subscribe to this new digital service will receive:

  • Increased battery life;
  • Free Caller ID service;
  • Free voice mail with message notification;
  • Free TalkDial , Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile's exclusive service which allows customers to "dial" with their voice;
  • Free 3-Way Calling, Call Waiting, No Answer Transfer;
  • Free built-in fraud protection; and,
  • Free activation.

Customers can choose from price plans beginning at $24.99 a month for DigitalChoice, and there is no activation fee. The company is offering Qualcomm digital phones in its Columbia area Communications Stores.
