EXTON, PA — Thanks to Bell Atlantic Mobile, Chester County Library's bookmobile is going hi-tech. Bell Atlantic Mobile recently outfitted the bookmobile with digital cellular modems. that link onboard computers to the main library's computer system as well as to the Internet. Now bookmobile users can access the library's online catalog to browse or to search for specific materials.

"Bell Atlantic Mobile is excited that our technology will be used to enhance the services Chester County Library provides its patrons," said Nick Zemlachenko, regional director of Bell Atlantic Mobile's data group. "The modems we installed allow bookmobile patrons to reserve books prior to visiting the main library, use the computer to do Internet research, print out, or save on a disk, research information for a school project and review library records.

Bookmobiles haven't changed since the 1960s, and earlier this year the head of the Library's Computer Services department, Steve Wasko, saw a need to update its bookmobile.. "We decided that if the bookmobile was going to continue to be useful to the public, we needed to update it technologically," said Wasko."We researched several options and chose Bell Atlantic Mobile to outfit ours bookmobile with two new digital cellular modems."

The Chester County Library's bookmobile follows a regular monthly schedule, providing remote and under-served people in Chester County with books and audio visual materials. Anyone can use the service and can sign up for a library card on the spot. For more information about bookmobile services call, 610-280-2670.
