DENVER, Colo. — Another busy school year is just around the corner, with students rushing from class to after school activities while parents try to juggle work and their kids' hectic schedules. Many families are turning to wireless to help balance their busy lives.

Today, there are 100 million U.S. wireless subscribers - 36 percent of the U.S. population. People are turning to wireless for convenience, safety and peace of mind. Families also are staying more in touch by equipping each family member with a wireless phone. A recent survey by Teenage Research Unlimited found that 20 percent of the nation's teens use wireless phones.

Verizon Wireless offers special family plans to make it more affordable for spouses, children and parents to stay in touch. Verizon Wireless extends the freedom of wireless calling through its popular Family Connection Plan, which now provides up to four lines of service for one family. The program also includes a pool of shared minutes to use each month and the ability for family members to use their wireless phones to call each other and talk for as long as they want without incurring any airtime charges.

Matt Campbell, a Verizon Wireless customer for nine years, has a son that is only 8 months old, but he and his wife are sold on the value and convenience of the Family Connection plan. "We feel such freedom with our wireless phones, and with shared minutes we are motivated to stay in touch with each other, friends and family. And, with a small baby at home, we both are more secure knowing we're only a phone call away."

The newest Family Connection program provides free, unlimited calls to eligible Verizon Wireless customers placing a wireless call to, or receiving a wireless call from, a member of their family when calling within their home service area (typically a geographic area where families live and work).

The program provides 300 anytime digital minutes for $50 per month or 800 anytime digital minutes for $80 per month on the first two lines of service. Another two lines of service (for a maximum of four phones) can be added to the plan for an additional $20 per month for each phone. The anytime minutes included in the package are designed for calls to non-plan members and are in addition to the unlimited calling features of the Family Connection program. Customers can sign up at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store or by calling 1-888-466-4646.

"Wireless gives busy families an easy way to keep in touch," said Marni Walden, regional president for Verizon Wireless in the Mountain region. "Now, no matter how busy your family gets, each member is just a phone call away and it won't cost you any airtime to talk to each other."

The Family Connection program is available in the following states: Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Pricing may vary.
