CHICAGO, Illinois — Verizon Wireless Messaging Services announced today that its Midwest Region has been named one of the recipients of this year's PCIA Foundations distinguished Albert Gore Jr. LifePage Achievement Award.

LifePage provides pagers and service to nearly 32,000 patients on national transplant lists. This gives patients the gift of freedom in the form of pagers and service from carriers at no charge, so patients and their families can continue to live as normal a life as possible instead of waiting near the phone for that life-saving call. LifePage works with 750 transplant centers and places on average 2,000 requests per month for equipment and service.

Verizon Wireless Messaging Services has been participating in the LifePage program since 1997. The number of patients and families Verizon Wireless has assisted continues to grow 150% annually.

"We're honored and pleased to accept this award, knowing that we as a company, are doing something so important to assist others in saving lives" said Ray Bodnar, Regional Vice President, Verizon Wireless Messaging Services.

The Albert Gore Jr. LifePage Achievement Award is awarded to companies and individuals on the front-line of the LifePage program. The award is so named because Gore, then a U.S. Representative from Tennessee and chairman of the House Science Subcommittee, helped draft the 1983 legislation that created the National Organ Transplant Act and one nationwide transplant waiting list.
