Bedminster, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, has entered into an agreement with Novatel Wireless (Nasdaq: NVTL), a provider of wireless data communications access software, to purchase the Merlin™ CDMA Wireless PC Card for use with Microsoft Windows laptops and Pocket PC (PPC) handheld devices.

Slightly larger than a credit card, Merlin CDMA slides inside your Type II PC Card slot, allowing the user full featured wireless data services via the Verizon Wireless CDMA network. Merlin CDMA PC Card provides wireless connectivity to Windows 98, 2000, Millennium Edition laptops as well as Windows CE PPCs.

Gary Schulman, President of the new Verizon Wireless Division of Wireless Data and Internet, said, "I am pleased to see our CDPD relationship evolve towards enhanced CDMA services. Both wireless data platforms are important to our overall data strategy."

Jack Sun, V.P. of CDMA Engineering at Novatel Wireless said, "Based on the MSM3100™, QUALCOMM's sixth generationsingle-chip Mobile Station Modem™ chipset solution, the Merlin CDMA PC card is the first Dual Band (800/1900 MHz CDMA) PC Card available. The Dual Band functionality of the Merlin CDMA PC Card provides the ability to operate on any IS95A CDMA data network, allowing our data-hungry users the flexibility they require."
