LAS VEGAS, NV — Verizon Wireless today announced that it has completed a series of network upgrades that are now delivering enhanced call quality and digital voice reception to customers in Clark County.

Since April 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $80 million in its Clark County network, more than doubling its digital footprint and increasing capacity for wireless voice and data services to meet the demand of customers and visitors in Las Vegas.

The network enhancement included activation of a new cell site located within The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino to provide additional capacity in the casino, its conference rooms and common areas. The Venetian is the latest of four Las Vegas casinos to complete an in-building Verizon Wireless system.

"Having a permanent site inside The Venetian boosts capacity for wireless users who are visiting Las Vegas. This is especially important during major conventions such as COMDEX or CES when call volumes are at a high level," said Jerry Gallegos, regional president of Verizon Wireless. "By adding additional sites along the Strip, Las Vegas residents will also benefit from increased wireless service capacity and coverage."

The network upgrade also means that Las Vegas customers can now subscribe to Mobile Web, a service that provides wireless access to the Web; and Mobile Messenger, a new two-way text messaging service that enables customers to stay in touch easily and quietly by swapping messages via their digital wireless handsets just by tapping the keypad.

"We are excited about our network improvement in Clark County. The upgrade enables us to deliver to residents and visitors not only enhanced call quality, but also new data services such as Mobile Web and Mobile Messenger, which open up a whole new world of wireless possibilities," added Gallegos.
