IRVINE, CA — As summer approaches, millions of local residents who head outdoors to enjoy fun in the sun throughout the Southland will rely on wireless phones to keep in touch with friends and family on the go. To help Southern California weekend warriors stay connected anywhere, Verizon Wireless has announced a national springtime promotion that gives customers 2,000 free weekend air time minutes when they sign up for selected national, regional or local digital rate plans.

For Verizon Wireless National SingleRateSM customers, the additional minutes translate into weekends of free long-distance calls on Verizon Wireless' coast-to-coast network with no roaming charges regardless of where they go in the United States. That means every call is like a local call for Southland residents who plan to travel anywhere throughout the country - coast to coast.

"Today, more Southern Californians rely on Verizon Wireless for their wireless communication needs than any other company," said Mike Finley - Regional President, Southern California. "We, in turn, are committed to providing a superior wireless network that consistently delivers the best call quality and coverage, as well as simple and affordable choices of digital service, $29 for local or regional digital service and $35 for nationwide calling."

The 2,000 free weekend airtime minutes are available to existing as well as new customers and they keep the minutes as long as they stay on the same rate plan, even if they sign a new contract. To receive the 2000 free weekend minutes and no national long distance charges, Southern California customers must sign up on a one year Digital Plus 200 Plan or above, which start at $19.99 a month for the first three months - $34.99 a month thereafter.

"Many Southland residents will find it more economical to use their wireless phone not only for business but also for weekend fun when they have time to relax and enjoy visiting -- wirelessly, at no additional charge, added Finley."

Southern California residents can also take advantage of Verizon Wireless' "Buy One Get One Free" promotion. Customers who purchase a digital Motorola V2260 phone for $19.99, and sign up for a new one-year local digital plans $34.99 and above, will receive a second Motorola V2260 phone for free. The second phone requires new activation with a one-year service agreement on local digital plans $19.99 and above.

Motorola's V2260 digital wireless phone features multi-language support (English, Spanish and French), a contoured design, large 5 line LCD graphic display, nine multiple ring styles and two phone wraps that enables users to personalize the color of the phone. Motorola's V2260 also is Verizon Wireless Mobile Web-capable, enabling users to access Internet services such as E-mail, stocks, news, weather, scores, calendar, address, horoscope and the lottery right on the screen of the phone. For a competitive price of $6.95 a month, Verizon Wireless customers can add on Mobile Web service to any Digital Plus 200 Plan or above and use the 2,000 free airtime weekend minutes for both voice and Web services.

Customers may visit any of Verizon Wireless' 66 retail stores and sales kiosks located throughout Southern California to sign up for new service on selected digital rate plans and receive the 2,000 free weekend minutes. The offer also is available at RadioShack and all authorized Verizon Wireless agents and retailers.
