ORANGEBURG, NY — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless communications provider, has completed the installation of a new digital switching office at its West Nyack facility to handle the ever-growing number of wireless calls in the area. The new office is part of a $4 billion investment made this year to improve and extend the reach of Verizon Wireless' nationwide network.

The newly expanded facility, together with the original switch placed in service in 1999, serves wireless customers who live in and travel through Rockland, Westchester and Putnam counties, the Bronx and Upper Manhattan.

"We're staying ahead of the wireless growth curve to ensure our customers continue to enjoy reliable, high quality service on the best digital wireless network in the area," said Charles Hand, president of the company's New York metro region. "Continued investment in the network means we'll continue to have the capacity to provide cutting-edge technology and outstanding wireless voice and data services to our customers."

Hand said four out of five Verizon Wireless customers use digital wireless service for greater call clarity and security, longer battery life and the ability to use advanced services, like Mobile Web wireless Internet access and two-way text messaging. Also, digital wireless service offers customers a wide variety of high value price plans, including the popular SingleRatesm Northeast plans which offer an 11-state home calling area in which customers pay no nationwide long distance or roaming charges
