SCHAUMBURG, IL — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless communications provider, announced today it has donated $1000 to Pillars Community Services' second annual "Pillars Walk." The LaGrange, Ill.-based organization is hosting the event on Sunday, October 7. The three-kilometer walk will benefit the Constance Morris House, a Pillars-operated shelter that provides comprehensive services for victims of domestic violence in over 30 communities in western Cook County, eastern DuPage County and the Midway Airport neighborhoods of the City of Chicago.

"Verizon Wireless has a long history of supporting domestic violence programs and initiatives on the local, regional and national levels," said Jack Leff, Director of Marketing of Verizon Wireless' Illinois/Wisconsin Region. "Through the Constance Morris House, Pillars Community Services provides much needed support to domestic violence victims and important prevention and education tools to others touched by this issue. With October being National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we're pleased to be involved in sponsoring this enjoyable and very worthwhile walk."

Verizon Wireless provides emergency phones for domestic violence shelters and organizations throughout the region. Through another corporate initiative, Verizon Wireless provides the local business community with posters and related materials to build awareness in the workplace of ways to detect and prevent domestic violence.

Entry fee to participate in the Pillars Walk is $15 for individuals, $25 for families and $35 for businesses. On-site registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. the day of the walk, Sunday, October 7, at the LaRange Village Hall, 53 N. LaGrange Road. The walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be proceeded by music and refreshments at the Village Hall in a celebration of the community's commitment against family violence.
