BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless carrier, is delivering on its commitment to provide emergency service personnel with additional location information about 911 calls from wireless phones. Starting today, customers can order the Verizon Wireless SCH-N300 E-911 capable phone from Samsung through the Verizon Wireless online store at www.verizonwireless.com.

When operating in an area where both the Verizon Wireless network and the local 911 call center system have been upgraded for E-911 Phase II service, the SCH-N300 will be able to automatically identify the calling location and wireless phone number to the call center. By April 2002, 65 percent of the population served by the Verizon Wireless network will be capable of transmitting location data to local Public Service Answering Points (PSAPs). Verizon Wireless expects coast-to-coast network upgrades to be completed by the second quarter of 2003. As PSAPs upgrade their local or state systems' ability to receive and use the location data supplied by the GPS-capable phones, the entire system will be completed.

"The launch of the Verizon Wireless SCH-N300 from Samsung is an important step in fulfilling the goal of providing location services to our customers," said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer at Verizon Wireless.
