KNOXVILLE, TN — Verizon Wireless was honored by the Community Coalition on Family Violence with the Anita Gregg Corporate Award, at a luncheon recently.

Verizon Wireless was recognized for its participation in the "Call to Protect" program. The store has collected more than 3,000 phones for the program, from the community. Verizon Wireless technicians have prepared many of the phones for distribution to domestic violence victims to provide them with free wireless access to local law enforcement agencies, domestic violence shelters and support agencies such as the YWCA.

"We are very honored to be recognized with this award," said Verizon Wireless East Tennessee retail general manager Ryan Chandler. "As a team, Knoxville-area Verizon employees are committed to preventing domestic violence in our own community. We are proud to make a difference however we can."

The award was named after Anita Gregg, a Knoxville woman who was a victim of domestic violence. All proceeds from the luncheon were donated to the Anita Gregg Memorial Fund to be used for community education on violence and victim assistance.
