SAN RAMON, CA — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, has appointed Tony Simpson to serve as president of the company's Northern California/Nevada Region.

In his new position, Simpson will be responsible for providing strategic direction and overseeing sales, marketing and general operations for 70 retail locations s throughout Northern California / Nevada region, which extends from California's border with Oregon, south to Santa Barbara and Bakersfield, and east to include Reno and all of northern Nevada.

"Tony's experience in data services and his commitment to customer service make him an excellent choice to lead the Northern California / Nevada team," said Brian Shay, Verizon Wireless' West Area president. "His experience and leadership will be great assets as he focuses on customer satisfaction and selling quality products and services in these markets."

Prior to joining the Northern California/Nevada Region, Simpson served as president of the Hawaii region.

Simpson joined GTE in 1985 as a business director for GTE Data Services. He held director positions in sales and marketing at GTE Information Services, GTE Interactive Services and GTE Telecommunications. Simpson joined GTE Wireless in 1996 as a data regional sales manager in the Midwest Area. Prior to joining GTE, Simpson held a series of management positions with IBM Corporation involving indirect marketing, product planning and sales.

Simpson earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Miami University in Ohio.
