CHICAGO, IL — Read all about it: Verizon Wireless donated more than 800 children's books for distribution by community agencies at an event sponsored by the Chicago Mayor's Office on Domestic Violence. The event, held Jan. 18, celebrated the excellent work of the agencies that assist domestic violence and sexual assault victims throughout Chicagoland.

The donation stems from Verizon Wireless' ongoing commitment to support domestic violence prevention and awareness initiatives on a local, regional and national basis, as well as the company's interest in improving literacy throughout Chicagoland.

"The books are just one way we can reach out to the younger victims of domestic violence," said Tracy Nolan, president of Verizon Wireless' Illinois/Wisconsin Region. "Reading can inspire children and have a real impact on their individual success later on in life."

Late last year Verizon Wireless launched a comprehensive domestic violence awareness program with the City of Chicago's Mayor's Office on Domestic Violence. The program includes a major billboard campaign to promote the city's 24-hour domestic violence HelpLine, and the distribution of workplace education posters to more than 8,000 businesses in Chicago and Illinois.
