BEDMINSTER, NJ —
The NBA and Verizon Wireless announced that the nation's largest wireless carrier will be the league's Official Wireless Service Provider. As part of the agreement, Verizon Wireless will sponsor the NBA on NBC halftime shows airing for the remainder of the NBA season and through the 2002 NBA Finals. The two organizations will also team up on a joint marketing effort that uses the latest wireless technology to provide fans with NBA information on their wireless phones.

Verizon Wireless digital customers will have the option of receiving text message alerts on their wireless phones with NBA news and information such as game schedules, television broadcast information or other NBA headline news. Customers will be able to register and select their alert content from vtext.com the company's short text messaging web site. Additionally, Verizon Wireless and NBA Entertainment, the NBA's Emmy Award-winning production and programming division, will work together to develop NBA-themed advertising to run during NBA programming. In addition, Verizon Wireless will advertise on NBA Inside Stuff on NBC and in NBA publications.

As the Official Wireless Communications Company of the NBA, Verizon Wireless receives the rights to use NBA league marks, photos and footage in advertising and promotions.
