BEDMINSTER, NJ — There is not another password to remember, not another email to memorize, not even another wireless carrier to know-just the wireless phone number you've always known. With Verizon Wireless' newly enhanced Mobile MessengerSM service, starting April 1st, customers can send quiet, discreet messages to their friends, family members and co-workers who have two-way messaging-capable phones and 'chat' in private, quietly. With the largest and most expansive nationwide network, Verizon Wireless is poised to bring short messaging services (SMS)-the latest and growing communications craze-to more people in more places.

Mobile Messenger is Verizon Wireless' superior SMS service that, as of today, lets customers with two-way messaging capable phones send and receive text messages to most other wireless customers. Most importantly, customers only need the 10-digit mobile number-the same number that is likely pre-programmed onto their handset-to send a text message.

Mobile Messenger now offers three ways to send SMS messages: From your mobile phone to another mobile phone; from your email application to a mobile phone; or from vtext.com, Verizon Wireless' text messaging companion Web site, to a mobile phone.

"We've long been a proponent of inter-carrier text-messaging and know that the American consumer will appreciate our efforts to bring them a quality nationwide service that is easy to use, always-on and complements a mobile phone when it is inappropriate to talk or more convenient than having a voice conversation," said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer of Verizon Wireless. "As the largest wireless carrier we are positioned to make the biggest impact in the growing SMS market."

Verizon Wireless has partnered with InphoMatch, Inc., the leading provider of inter-carrier messaging solutions, to bring text messaging functionality to millions more mobile phone users on other wireless networks.

Customers can get Mobile Messenger in several ways: They can pay as they go for $0.02 per message received and $0.10 per message sent or select from three bundled plans: 100 sent or received messages for $2.99 per month; 200 sent or received messages for $3.99 per month; and 600 sent or received messages for just $7.99 per month. Extra sent messages are $0.10 each and received messages are $0.02 each. To sign up for a bundled plan, call 1-800-922-0204 or visit the nearest Verizon Wireless Communications Store. Customers need a two-way messaging-capable wireless phone and Verizon Wireless digital service.
