BEDMINSTER, NJ and REDWOOD CITY, CA — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, today announced that downloadable Modtone™ polyphonic ringtones from Faith West Inc. will be available nationally on the Verizon Wireless Z-800 handset. Modtones ringtones closely replicate songs and distinguish between drums and guitar, for example, and will prove to be one of the most popular downloadable applications.

Unlike ringtones that beep a pale imitation of a melody, the Modtones versions produce 16 tones at once to closely imitate musical notes, letting customers truly personalize their wireless phones to reflect the user's personality. Users can easily customize the Modtones service on their phones to play a romantic song when a loved one calls, for example, or one about work when it's the boss.

Modtones ringtones are available on the Verizon Wireless Z-800 handset, which features a full-color display. The service will also be supported on other handsets soon.

Verizon Wireless customers can log on to www.modtones.com for a list of songs and to keep up with newly added songs. The Modtones service is the first from Faith West Inc., a new, wholly owned subsidiary of FAITH, INC., which pioneered the creation and delivery of polyphonic ringtones in Japan.

"We've moved light years beyond the time when you had to ask, 'Is that my phone?' if you heard a wireless phone ringing. Our customers want their phones to reflect their personalities, and the Modtones service does just that," said James Straight, vice president of Internet and data services for Verizon Wireless. "This is a cool application that allows users to browse and select ringtones in dozens of musical genres, so you can easily find the music that rings true for you."

"Millions of users in Japan have made their favorite songs a part of their mobile lives with FAITH's technology," said Carolynne Schloeder, executive vice president of Faith West. "Through our alliances with U.S. market leaders such as Verizon Wireless, we will bring that same experience to consumers here in America."

The Modtones mobile program is complemented by a Web site (www.modtones.com) that offers expanded categories and a streamlined search experience. Browse the Modtones categories, preview your favorite tones, and then access them from your mobile phone by entering the tone ID. Hundreds of licensed tracks will be added to the site in the coming months, introduced by the fictional Modtones band of animated mod kids who perform the MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) versions users download to their phones.
