BEDMINSTER, NJ — OfficeMax, Inc. (NYSE: OMX) and Verizon Wireless today unveiled a strategic alliance with OfficeMax to offer small business customers its full suite of wireless solutions in over 700 OfficeMax locations nationwide. The solutions include Verizon Wireless' award winning wireless service plans, [FREEUP] prepay service, as well as Express Network, Verizon Wireless' newest high speed data service that gives users full Internet access, intranet access and traditional email functionality via a laptop at unprecedented wireless access speeds. Verizon Wireless [FREEUP] service will be available in OfficeMax stores during the back-to-school selling season, with the full suite of solutions planned for roll out by November 2002.

"OfficeMax continues to strategically align itself with world-class retailers like Verizon Wireless," said Michael Feuer, OfficeMax's chairman and chief executive officer. "With this alliance, Verizon Wireless becomes a preferred provider of wireless communications, giving our customers access to a host of innovative voice and data plans from the leading provider in the wireless business."

OfficeMax in-store offering will showcase Verizon Wireless America's Choice nationwide service plans, Mobile WebSM, Mobile MessengerSM and other data services. The alliance also calls for Verizon Wireless to train OfficeMax sales associates on Verizon Wireless' complete service line. Customers can expect a consultative purchasing experience and to be assisted in getting the wireless plan that best suits their needs.
