WALNUT CREEK, CA — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, has expanded its high-speed wireless data network into the following counties: Monterey, Santa Cruz, Napa, Sonoma, Solano, and San Benito. The six counties surround the greater San Francisco Bay Area where Express NetworkSM was launched earlier this year as part of the company's initial rollout of high-speed wireless services. Express Network is now available coast to coast in more than 300 cities and towns.

"With the freedom and flexibility that Express Network service affords, being out of the office no longer means being out of the loop," said Tony Simpson, regional president of Verizon Wireless. "It's about increased productivity when traveling; there are no worries about finding a phone jack or fears about missing an important email from a customer or not having access to important files. With average data transmission speeds between 40 and 60 kilobits per second (kbps) — and bursts up to 144 kbps - customers will experience speeds similar to or better than dialing in from their home PC."

The Verizon Wireless Express Network has been expanded to include the following communities:

  • Napa County - American Canyon, Calistoga, Napa, St. Helena, Youtville
  • Monterey County - Carmel, Carmel Highlands, Castroville, Chualar, Del Rey Oaks, Elkhorn, Gonzales, Greenfield, King City, Las Lomas, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pajaro, Pebble Beach, Prunedale, Salinas, Sand City, Seaside, Soledad, Spreckels
  • San Benito County - Hollister, and surrounding area
  • Santa Clara County - Gilroy, Morgan Hill (Express Network was introduced to Santa Clara County as part of the initial service launch in February 2002. Service extension to these cities now extends service throughout all of Santa Clara County.)
  • Santa Cruz County - Aptos, Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek, Capitola, Felton, Freedom, Moss Landing, La Selva Beach, Pasatiempo, Redwood Estates, Rio Del Mar, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Soquel, Watsonville
  • Solano County - Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Suisun, Vacaville, Vallejo
  • Sonoma County - Cotati, Glen Ellen, Healdsburg, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Windsor

For a limited time only, Verizon Wireless customers in all Express Network cities coast to coast can take advantage of the company's new Get Start Package. The package is available until September 30 and includes one-month access free - a $99.99 value - and mail-in rebates on the latest wireless data equipment, for total savings of up to $149.99.

Specifically, through September 30, customers will receive a $20 instant rebate on the Mobile Office connectivity kit, which is used to connect Express Network-capable phones to laptops. For customers who prefer to use a PC card in conjunction with their laptop or PDA in order to connect to the Express Network, the AirCard 555 from Sierra Wireless comes with a $50 mail-in rebate good until September 30 when they sign up for a one- or two-year agreement.
