Verizon Wireless Announces Wireless Office Suite of Services and Devices for Business Customers

NEW ORLEANS, LA — From CTIA's Wireless 2003 show, Verizon Wireless today announced an array of wireless solutions that let workers who spend much of their time out of the office seamlessly connect via a wireless environment. Wireless Office brings a suite of services to the mobile professional that encompasses voice tools, Internet/intranet access, personal information management, e-mail and customized solutions on the latest devices. From PDA options from Samsung and Kyocera to a BlackBerry device on a high-speed data network, enterprise customers may choose the best device for their employees to efficiently access e-mail and corporate data, receive on-demand information and make voice calls.

"Our enterprise customers have some common needs for their mobile workers that include affordable and consistent access to e-mail and their corporate intranet - but they appreciate choice when it comes to operating system, functionality and device form factor. We're working with a number of our trusted manufacturers to help the mobile professional get increased utility and efficiency from full-featured device options that further duplicate the office environment," said Cindy Patterson, Verizon Wireless vice president - enterprise data.

These new enterprise devices will operate on Verizon Wireless' national high-speed Express Network^SM, which is available in 900 cities nationwide and delivers average data transmission speeds between 40 and 60 kilobits per second (kbps) with bursts up to 144 kbps - ideal for most corporate applications. And, recognizing the need to have 24 hour access to e-mail, Verizon Wireless has affordable and reliable Wireless Office solutions that address specific needs for e-mail-whether a small/home office, a field force worker or a large enterprise-including a VoiceGear service that allows users to listen and respond to e-mail via voice commands.

Samsung i700 Windows-powered Pocket PC
To keep businesses moving and to enhance productivity, the Samsung i700 Windows-powered Pocket PC and wireless phone device allows for some serious multi-tasking: customers can access their Pocket Outlook for e-mail or calendar functions, launch Pocket Internet Explorer to conduct research, or launch Word or Excel documents while holding a hands-free conference call. Real estate brokers, architects, designers and insurance claims representatives, among other mobile professionals, will appreciate the built-in camera that supports VGA quality images so clients and colleagues can receive photos instantly from the job site. Additionally, the i700 has a host of features that offer both flexibility and scalability to enterprise users, including an IR port, USB sync and 64 MB of RAM with an SD expansion slot.

The Samsung i700 will be available in April through Verizon Wireless' business sales channels.

Kyocera 7135 Smartphone
The widely anticipated successor to the QCP™ 6035 smartphone, the Kyocera 7135 features a small, lightweight clamshell design and a high-resolution screen with 65,000 colors, Assisted GPS (A-GPS) technology, and an expansion card slot compatible with both MultiMediaCard™ (MMC) and SD™ card standards, allowing users to add memory, specialized applications or accessories. For road warriors, the Kyocera 7135 also incorporates a speakerphone, voice-activated dialing, silent vibrating alert, two-way SMS text messaging, Eudora® e-mail, and three modes of Web access (HTML, Web Clipping and WAP). The numeric keypad allows easy, one-touch access to contact and calendar data as well as messages or the Web. Featuring Palm OS® v4.1 and 16MB of on-board memory, the Kyocera 7135 offers the complete functionality of a Palm™ organizer and supports thousands of applications written for the Palm OS platform. The phone supports browsers with Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to provide security for confidential data, ideal for enterprise information management, mobile workers and m-commerce.

The Kyocera 7135 will be available in April through Verizon Wireless' business sales channels.

BlackBerry 6750^TM from Research in Motion (RIM)
The new BlackBerry 6750^TM handheld from RIM (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) for Verizon Wireless' national high-speed Express Network is based on the popular BlackBerry^TM wireless platform.

True to form, the BlackBerry 6750's sleek shape features a keyboard that makes typing with thumbs easy and efficient for e-mail correspondence and short text messaging. The 6750 also has a speakerphone/microphone and privacy headset. Verizon Wireless plans to introduce the BlackBerry 6750 in the second quarter 2003. Today's announcement is part of the company's leadership in serving business customers, from mobile professionals, to small and medium businesses, to large enterprises.
