LOUISVILLE, KY — This Earth Day, Kentuckians can give back to the Earth and the community by donating their old, unused wireless phones to Verizon Wireless’ HopeLineSM recycling program. With as little effort as it takes to clean out a junk drawer, an old wireless phone can become a lifeline rather than a landfill addition.

Through its exclusive HopeLine program, Verizon Wireless puts its services and equipment to work to help prevent domestic violence. The company collects used phones to be refurbished or recycled and/or sold. With the funds raised from those sales, Verizon Wireless purchases wireless phones to donate with airtime to victims of domestic violence and makes monetary contributions to local domestic violence organizations. Phones and parts that cannot be refurbished are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

“Supporting our HopeLine program helps two important causes simultaneously,” said Wayne White, president of Verizon Wireless’ Kentucky Region.  “By donating no-longer-used phones to the eco-friendly HopeLine program, customers can help make the Earth a little greener while directly helping victims of domestic violence.”

All wireless users in Kentucky can participate by donating a wireless phone at any of the following Verizon Wireless Communications Stores:

* 5300 Dixie Highway in Louisville
* 4531 Outer Loop in Louisville
* 9409 Shelbyville Road in Louisville
* 1190 E. Highway 131 in Clarksville, Indiana
* 2901 Richmond Road in Lexington
* 2769 West Park Drive in Paducah

As a result of HopeLine and related phone recycling programs the company has organized since 1995, Verizon Wireless has collected more than one million used wireless phones for the benefit of domestic violence victims and advocacy groups.

Wireless phones and equipment donations are tax-deductible and can be donated at any Verizon Wireless Communications Stores listed above or sent to:
