ROCHESTER, NY — Verizon Wireless’ Star Performers team, a cross-functional team of Verizon Wireless employees, presented a check for $6,023 to the Rochester office of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western New York. The donation was the result of the group’s year-long fund raising efforts within Verizon Wireless’ Upstate New York Region.

“Our Star Performer team’s fundraising efforts showed why they’re recognized as leaders within our company,” said John Palmer, president of Verizon Wireless’ Upstate New York Region. “They selected a cause to support and coordinated fund raising events throughout the year. The result is their donation of more than $6,000 to help fund the wishes of seriously ill children in our area.”

The Star Performers team conducted monthly fund raising events with Verizon Wireless employees including bake sales, raffles, candy and carnation sales, selling “dress down day” coupons, even pie throwing and a dunking booth. The events took place between February 2002 and February 2003. Nine employees make up the Star Performers team.

The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The average cost to grant a wish for one of these children is $5,000.
