GRAND FORKS, ND — Verizon Wireless today announced that it will hold a wireless phone collection drive beginning this Saturday, July 26, at the Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) Run/Walk for Peace and continuing through September 30. The company will donate $2 for each wireless phone collected during the drive to CVIC's domestic violence prevention efforts.

Wireless phones in any condition and from any service provider may be dropped off at the race site on July 26 and at the NorthStar Telcom store at 2100 South Columbia Road from Saturday through the end of September.

Through its exclusive HopeLineSM program, Verizon Wireless puts services and equipment to work to help prevent domestic violence. The company collects no-longer-used phones to be refurbished or recycled and/or sold. With the funds raised from those sales, Verizon Wireless purchases wireless phones to donate with airtime to victims of domestic violence and makes monetary contributions to local domestic violence organizations, such as CVIC. In addition to the phone drive, Verizon Wireless has contributed $1,000 to this year's CVIC Run/Walk for Peace. The proceeds from the event will benefit CVIC's Light of Hope domestic violence shelter.

"Verizon Wireless is dedicated to domestic violence awareness and prevention," said Bud Corbin, Verizon Wireless' Indirect Sales Manager for North Dakota. "Working with NorthStar Telcom, we are challenging the public to contribute their old wireless phones for a worthy cause."

Phone collections will be accepted from July 26 through September 30 at NorthStar Telcom 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.

For information and registration for the Race/Walk contact Heather at the CVIC at 701-746-0405.
