ORANGEBURG, NY — In an ongoing effort to provide the best wireless service for residents and those who travel throughout Long Island, Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, has activated four new cell sites in Nassau County in as many months.
The new sites are part of a planned investment in the company's national wireless network, the largest, most advanced and most reliable in the country. Verizon Wireless spends $1 billion every 90 days to expand and upgrade its nationwide wireless network and to stay ahead of the growing demand for its voice and data services. The company added a record 1.4 million net new customers during the third quarter, more than any other wireless carrier, and now serves more than 36 million customers.
"Verizon Wireless continues to build cell sites and improve service for our customers," said Charles Hand, president of Verizon Wireless' New York Metro area. "During 2003, we added twelve new cell sites on Long Island and additional locations are planned for next year."
The new sites in Nassau County improve service in the following areas:
- In Syosset on Route 25, Woodbury Road, White Oak Tree Road and Colorado Spring Road
- In Hicksville on West Old Country Road, Plainview Road and South Oyster Bay Road
- In East Meadow on Route 24, East Meadow Parkway and Merrick Avenue North
- In Garden City in the Roosevelt Field Mall and immediate vicinity.
Hand said he expects demand for Verizon Wireless' services to continue to be strong, now that customers are able to switch wireless carriers and keep their wireless phone numbers.
"The artificial barrier, forcing customers to stay with one carrier, is gone and they are free to choose the best network," he said.
