WOBURN, MA — Next week in Burlington, Mass., Verizon Wireless will hold a "Wireless Data Symposium" to familiarize the community with the company's expansive data service offerings, specifically those working in the field of public safety.

The symposiums will be led by Howard Lerner, associate director – Wireless Data, Verizon Wireless, whose presentation, "The Connection: Public Safety & Wireless Data Solutions," will focus primarily on NationalAccess, an advanced high speed wireless data service on the company's nationwide network.

Wireless Data Uses In Public Safety
Wireless data is used across the public safety field. Police officials, fire departments and state departments such as Health & Human Services, Child Protective Services, the Sex Offender Registry Board and many others, leverage the rapid delivery of information when handling day-to-day operations, especially when they are working remotely or in the field.

For police officials using PC/notebook-equipped vehicles, the ability to download Registry of Motor Vehicle (RMV) reports, driver license photos and other information can be integral during the most routine duties and for more detailed investigations. Fire departments responding to assist with unknown chemical spills can use high-speed wireless connections to remotely access HAZMAT databases to identify and remedy the spill as quickly and safely as possible. Information from the statewide and national sex offenders list can also be quickly pulled in cases where a child's safety may be in jeopardy.

"Advances in wireless data have given public safety service professionals increased speed, bandwidth and coverage," said Mr. Lerner. "The expansive use of electronic images and information gives field operations teams remote access to information virtually anywhere, and at any time. Now, with high-speed wireless service, data can be delivered more quickly -- which may be critical differentiator in emergency situations."

Guest vendors and participants of the Verizon Wireless symposium series will include Lucent Technologies, Airlink, Panasonic, Sierra Wireless, Padcom and NetMotion. The location and time for the symposium is:

Massachusetts: Tuesday, March 30th from 8:30 a.m. – Noon at the Burlington Marriott (1 Mall Road Burlington, Mass.)
