PHOENIX, AZ — Growth in demand for Verizon Wireless products and services not only triggered more than $160 million in network investment in Arizona in the past two years, it's prompting growth in new jobs in the state. Verizon Wireless is adding more than 300 full-time customer service positions this year as the company expands its operations in the Valley into a 170,000 square-foot office located in the Chandler Freeways Business Park at 6955 W. Morelos Pl. in Chandler.

The more than $20 million new facility will combine both the company's Desert Mountain Region sales headquarters, currently located in Phoenix, and its Tempe-based Customer Service Center. The Desert Mountain Region includes Arizona; Colorado; New Mexico; Las Vegas; El Paso, Texas; the Utah markets associated with Cedar City and St. George; and the Wyoming markets of Casper, Cheyenne, Douglas and Laramie. Plans call for the Customer Service Center to relocate to the new facility in late 2004.

The company cites strong customer growth and Maricopa County's rapidly growing diverse local talent pool as the main drivers of the expansion. "With a single East Valley location that combines our regional headquarters and Customer Service Center, we are perfectly positioned to continue to stay ahead of the demand for our products and services," said Tami Erwin, regional president for Verizon Wireless. "Expanding our operations will also help Verizon Wireless deliver on our commitment to provide superior customer service." Verizon Wireless currently employs more than 1,000 people in Arizona in a variety of jobs including sales, customer service, administration and network operations and engineering.

In 2002 and 2003, Verizon Wireless invested more than $160 million to provide the best possible wireless experience in Arizona, further expanding and enhancing its wireless voice and data network in the state. Each year, Verizon Wireless invests on average about a billion dollars every 90 days in its national network, constantly improving and expanding what already is the largest, most reliable nationwide wireless network in the United States.
