MANCHESTER, NH — Approximately 1.5 million women are physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States and research shows that between 3.3 million and 10 million children in the United States are exposed to domestic violence each year.

Domestic Violence is a broad societal epidemic that affects the lives of family, friends, and co-workers. Understanding the impact domestic violence has, the Verizon Wireless Arena, in association with its naming sponsor, Verizon Wireless, has announced the installation of a HopeLineSM kiosk designed to accept no-longer-used wireless phones for donation to organizations that work with victims of domestic violence. The unveiling of the new program coincides with country music superstar Martina McBride's concert at the Arena on Saturday, April 24th. McBride has raised the level of domestic violence awareness through her powerful songs and advocacy.

Verizon Wireless' national HopeLine program focuses on putting wireless products and services to work to curb domestic violence and assist victims in emergency situations. Additionally, the HopeLine program supports non-profit domestic violence prevention groups, and provides an environmentally friendly method for recycling handsets.

At the center of HopeLine is a phone-recycling program. Phones collected at the Arena-based kiosk as well as through more than 1,200 Verizon Wireless Communications stores across the country, are refurbished for donation to victims, recycled or sold. Proceeds are then used to benefit non-profit domestic violence prevention organizations through the purchase of wireless phones, airtime, and/or monetary contributions. Wireless phones (any brand, any carrier) no longer in use, are accepted.

"We were thrilled when Verizon Wireless asked us to install a HopeLine kiosk at the Verizon Wireless Arena," said Timothy Bechert, General Manager of the Verizon Wireless Arena. "We thought it made perfect sense to unveil the kiosk at the Martina McBride concert due to her involvement in domestic violence awareness."

"A third of all women murdered in the U.S. are killed by husbands or boyfriends," said Martina McBride, country music superstar and spokesperson for the National Domestic Violence Hotline. "It gives me a great sense of fulfillment to support organizations that make domestic violence awareness a priority, and I'm proud that Verizon Wireless chose to launch its HopeLine phone collection kiosk in association with my concert at the Verizon Wireless Arena."

The kiosk will be located near the Box Office. Phones, batteries, and accessories can be dropped off during Box Office hours: Monday-Friday 10:00am-6:00pm and Saturday 10:00am-2:00pm. If there is an event on Sunday, the Box Office will open three hours prior to the event. The Box Office will also be open at the time of publicly announced ticket on-sale dates and will remain open three hours after. Hours are subject to change on event days.

"HopeLine was created to assist domestic violence victims," said Bob Stott, president of the New England Region for Verizon Wireless. "We are very pleased the Verizon Wireless Arena is an additional location where people can donate no-longer-used wireless phones to help support victims of domestic violence and curb this widespread epidemic. We also applaud Martina McBride for her active role in domestic violence advocacy. Together we can make a difference."
