GRAPEVINE, TX — Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless provider, continued to enhance its digital network in Texas by activating a new cell site inside the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center on Lake Grapevine.

The Gaylord Texan is a $485 million hotel that opened in April. The hotel contains 1,511 rooms, restaurants and 400,00 square feet of meeting space. The facility also includes a 25,000 square-foot spa and fitness center and an 18-hole championship golf course.

The state-of-the-art system that Verizon Wireless is operating at the Gaylord Texan is comprised of mini-antennas distributed throughout the entire complex. This system will ensure that resort guests and employees using Verizon Wireless service will enjoy excellent coverage --whether they are in the underground levels of the parking garage, the convention center or the hotel.

The cell site expansion is part of the company's aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless voice and data services, including two-way text messaging, picture messaging and Internet access. Verizon Wireless invested more than $194 million in its Texas network in 2003.

"The Gaylord Texan is a tremendous facility that will be hosting a variety of national meetings and conventions for years to come. We wanted to ensure that Verizon Wireless customers who travel to the hotel have the best wireless network available," said David McCarley, executive director of network for Verizon Wireless in Texas.

In addition to providing the nation's largest and highest-quality digital network, Verizon Wireless offers NationalAccess, a nationwide high-speed wireless data network, providing fast wireless Internet service with bursts up to 144 kilobits per second (kbps). NationalAccess gives users full Internet access, intranet access and traditional e-mail functionality on their laptop at unprecedented speeds for wireless access. Users can expect average speeds between 40 and 60 kbps, significantly higher than speeds being produced by competing technologies and comparable to, if not faster than, using dial-up Internet service.

In select markets, Verizon Wireless also offers BroadbandAccess, which provides average transfer speeds of 300-500 kbps. Verizon Wireless will roll out BroadbandAccess in key Texas cities in 2004 and 2005.

Test Man Ride-Along Program
