Beginning May 24, local number portability (LNP) will enable wireless customers everywhere across the country to switch their provider while keeping their number — making it easier than ever to take advantage of the nation's most reliable wireless network, Verizon Wireless. Switching to Verizon Wireless is easy — whether in-person, by phone or online.

Customers looking to port their number to Verizon Wireless can easily do so by visiting a Verizon Wireless Communications Store. Verizon Wireless customer service representatives, at the more than 1,200 Communications Stores nationwide, have been trained specifically on how to provide porting for customers. For those who'd rather conduct the process over the phone, a call to 1-800-2 JOIN IN connects customers to the company's specially trained customer service call center staff. Verizon Wireless has educated its 41,000 employees about LNP, and its dedicated porting center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee is home to highly specialized customer service representatives to help provide customers with a smooth and easy porting experience. Or for those who prefer using the Internet, customers can port their number online by visiting www.verizonwireless.com beginning May 24.

Once a customer decides where to begin, the porting process is easy to do when following a few easy steps:

1. Get ready in advance: Don't cancel current service, have a copy of the latest invoice and prepare alternate contact information — in case the process takes longer than expected.

2. Work with the experts: A Verizon Wireless customer service representative can help validate the number to be ported and assist with the selection of a new wireless plan, equipment, and features.

3. Sit back and relax: Within a few hours (typically 2 — 3 hours) of providing the necessary information to Verizon Wireless, the customer receives a welcome TXT message via their new Verizon Wireless service signaling the activation of their new Verizon Wireless account. At this time, the old service is automatically disconnected.
