BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless provider and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, today announced that Verizon Wireless customers with TXT Messaging capable phones can sign up to receive news alerts from world renowned news source, CNN.com. CNN News TXT alerts offer breaking news and top stories, connecting Verizon Wireless customers with the latest headlines from around the world and providing fast notification of breaking and developing news directly from CNN's world headquarters. CNN/Money TXT alerts deliver up-to-date business and financial news from the editors of CNN/fn and Money magazine.

To register, Verizon Wireless customers can simply login to www.vtext.com, Verizon Wireless' companion Web site, or www.freeup.com and select which CNN news alerts they wish to receive to stay up-to-date on breaking news or top business and financial headlines as the news happens. News-savvy customers can choose from 10 CNN News programs:

  • Breaking News
  • Priority Alerts (The highest level of breaking news alerts, which are sent by priority as "push" alerts.)
  • Top Stories
  • World News
  • Regional News — Africa
  • Regional News — Americas
  • Regional News — Asia · Regional News — Europe

Verizon Wireless customers can also further define the type of stories they receive. By entering a keyword, customers receive alerts only when news contains that keyword.

Verizon Wireless customers can pay as they go for TXT Alerts, which are just $0.02 for each message received or select from several bundled plans, including $2.99 per month for 100 messages, $4.99 per month for 250 messages and $9.99 per month for 1,000 messages sent or received.

Verizon Wireless products and services are available in more than 1,200 Verizon Wireless Communications Stores, at participating Circuit City and RadioShack locations and on the Web at www.verizonwireless.com.
