EVANSVILLE, IN — To stay ahead of its growing customer base and demand for its voice and data services, Verizon Wireless has activated three new cell sites in Evansville that improve the company's digital network coverage and capacity.

The new cell sites increase the strength of the Verizon Wireless network signal and enable more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently. As a result, Verizon Wireless customers will experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ringtones with the company's Get It Now® services.

Network coverage and capacity have been improved in the following areas:

  • The southern portion of downtown Evansville
  • Interstate 164 between U.S. Highway 41 and South Green River Rd.
  • U.S. Highway 41 between Covert Avenue and Ellis Park
  • Ellis Park Raceway
  • Highway 57 between Washington and Newberry
  • The town of Plainville
  • The town of Otwell
  • State Road 356 West between Otwell and Petersburg
  • State Road 56 East between Otwell and Jasper
  • State Road 257 between Velpen and Washington

"During the past year in Evansville, our customer base has grown and the average number of minutes our customers use their wireless phones has increased, resulting in a 44 percent growth in volume on our network," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "These network enhancements reflect our ongoing commitment to meet the growing needs of our customers and to provide them with the high quality of service they expect from Verizon Wireless."

Activation of these new cell sites is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana and across the country. Nationally each year, the company invests about $1 billion every 90 days to improve and expand what is already the most extensive wireless network in the United States. Approximately $76 million of this investment will be spent this year to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Indiana.
