BEDMINSTER, NJ, SUNNYVALE, CA and SAN FRANCISCO — From the CTIA Wireless I.T. and Entertainment 2004 show at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless service provider, announced today that it has teamed up with leading content provider Yahoo!® to offer an extensive suite of e-mail, mapping, news, and weather-information applications through the Verizon Wireless Mobile Web 2.0 service. Customers with Mobile Web 2.0SM-enabled phones can access Yahoo! services to stay even more connected and informed with familiar and popular applications from Yahoo!, including Yahoo! Mail.

From the Mobile Web 2.0 home screen, VZW Today, Verizon Wireless customers can access their choice of Yahoo!'s market leading content and application offerings in just a few clicks, including:

  • Yahoo! Mail — The No. 1 e-mail service in the country* helps consumers stay in touch at home, work or while traveling. Customers simply select E-mail from the VZW Today home screen and click on Yahoo! Mail. (*Nielsen//NetRatings September 2004)
  • Local Info — Get local information while on the go with weather, movie information and driving directions. Click on Directories from VZW Today and select Yahoo! Local.
  • Yahoo! Sports — A fast and interactive experience for sports fans. Consumers can keep up on breaking news and the latest scores for their favorite teams and sporting events when they click on Sports from VZW Today, click More and choose Yahoo! Sports.
  • Yahoo! News — Customers can stay informed while on the go with access to U.S. and international news, including top stories, breaking business news, and the latest from the world of entertainment. Simply click on News from the VZW Today home screen and select Yahoo! News.

What's more, if Mobile Web 2.0 customers have already set up their personal preferences on Yahoo!, such as local weather or stock portfolio settings, this information is automatically accessed from their wireless phones each time they log on to Yahoo!. Mobile Web 2.0 allows Verizon Wireless customers to get instant access to news, tools and information from the nation's top content providers and do everything from trade stocks to purchase music and movies. Mobile Web 2.0 is available for $4.99 monthly access, plus airtime fees, and can be self-subscribed, eliminating the need for customers to call customer service or visit a Verizon Wireless Communications Store to sign up for the service. Customers can register for the service right from their Mobile Web 2.0-capable handsets.

The Mobile Web 2.0-enabled LG VX7000 with its improved graphics and easier navigation will make it even easier to access all of Yahoo!'s applications. Packed with other features that include a rotating lens, embedded flash and video messaging capabilities, the LG VX7000 is the perfect Mobile Web 2.0 phone for the camera phone enthusiast and is available for just $149.99 after a $50 rebate with a two-year customer agreement. Mobile Web 2.0 is also available on the LG VX4500, Motorola V710, Samsung A790 and Audiovox CDM8910 and CDM9900 phones.
