ALPHARETTA, GA — Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading provider of wireless communications services, announces the addition of a new cell tower in downtown Savannah as part of the company's ongoing commitment to network quality and its continuing effort to provide superior voice and data service to its customers. Through the increased service capacity and network quality in downtown Savannah, Verizon Wireless is meeting the increasing demands for its service and giving its growing customer base the most reliable service available and broader access to America's largest, most advanced, wireless network. In 2004, Verizon Wireless has invested nearly $9 million in Georgia's coastal region to enhance the wireless voice and data experience of its local customers and support the international G8 Summit, which took place in the area earlier this year.

The new cell tower site will offers increased capacity and voice quality in downtown's high call-volume area. The coverage enhancements are part of the company's aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless voice and data services.

"Verizon Wireless invested nearly $1 billion in the South Area alone in 2003 and our 2004 investments continues that commitment to have the best voice and data network," said Jim McGean, Verizon Wireless Georgia/Alabama region president. "Now, our customers in the Savannah area will experience clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications such as TXT and Picture Messaging, or downloading games and ringtones with our Get it Now® services."

The company's most reliable network claim is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women who inspired the company's national advertising campaign. They make more than 300,000 call attempts monthly on Verizon Wireless' and other national wireless carriers' networks while traveling over 100,000 miles of the most frequently traveled roadways nationwide in specially-equipped company-owned quality test vehicles. Further, Verizon Wireless relies solely upon CDMA technology --considered one of the most reliable wireless communications platforms — for enhanced clarity and dependability.
