BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the nation's most reliable and advanced wireless network, today announced the appointment of Michael Griffin as director of its national Wireless Data Technical Support Center. In his new role, Griffin will lead all aspects of Verizon Wireless' national data customer service, including technical support customer retention, and quality service delivery.

Griffin will also oversee the continued expansion of Verizon Wireless' Data Technical Support Center, which currently includes 520 wireless data technical support employees and two locations — Folsom, Calif. and Houston, Texas. Verizon Wireless has continually expanded its Wireless Data Technical Support Center throughout the year to stay ahead of growing demand for the company's advanced data services.

"With the growth of our customers' data usage, introduction of advanced devices and the rapid rollout of our high-speed BroadbandAccess data network, Verizon Wireless is committed to providing our sophisticated data customers with the very best technical support to keep them connected while they are on the go," said Lowell McAdam, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Verizon Wireless. "Mike Griffin's experience in the high technology and customer service worlds, combined with our talented, knowledgeable team of representatives, will take us a long way toward ensuring that Verizon Wireless delivers on its promise of a world-class customer experience."

Approximately one-third of the company's base — 14.6 million customers — uses data services, and the company is aggressively deploying its BroadbandAccess data service, the fastest commercially available wide-area, wireless high-speed Internet access service in the United States. It is currently available in 18 major metropolitan areas and 26 airports with plans to cover more than 75 million potential customers by year's end.

Prior to joining Verizon Wireless, Griffin was vice president of customer service and technical support for software manufacturer Intuit in Plano, Texas, and previously held senior customer service leadership positions with other major technology companies, including Acer America and Texas Instruments. He is a graduate of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.
