Verizon Wireless Expands Its Network In Manhattan, New York

Investing to Stay Ahead of Growing Demand for Wireless Calling, Data Access

ORANGEBURG, NY — In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for residents, commuters and tourists in Manhattan, Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, has expanded its network with three new cell sites.

As a result of the new cell sites, network coverage and capacity have been improved in the following areas:

  • From East 57th to East 62nd Streets between Riverview Avenue and Second Avenue
  • On Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue from 68th to 75th Streets, on Park Avenue from 69th to 75th Streets and on Lexington Avenue from 70th to 74th Streets
  • On Amsterdam Avenue from 92nd to 96th Streets and on Columbus Avenue and Central Park West from 90th to 103rd Streets

The new cell sites are part of the company's aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless voice and data services, like two-way text messaging, picture messaging and high-speed Internet access. Verizon Wireless spends $1 billion every 90 days to expand and upgrade its nationwide wireless network.

Demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the third quarter as the company added a record 1.7 million net new customers, more than any other wireless provider and an all-time industry record for the second consecutive quarter. Verizon Wireless now serves 42.1 million customers nationwide.

The engineers conduct more than 300,000 call attempts monthly on Verizon Wireless' and other national wireless carriers' networks while traveling over 100,000 miles of the most frequently traveled roadways nationwide in specially equipped, company-owned quality test vehicles.*
