LEXINGTON, KY — To stay ahead of its growing customer base and demand for its voice and data services, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site at the University of Kentucky's Commonwealth Stadium that improves the company's digital coverage and capacity across the campus.

The new cell site enables students at UK and other Verizon Wireless customers on campus to experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ringtones with the company's Get It Now® services.

"College students are among the heaviest wireless phone users," said Greg Haller, president—Kentucky/Michigan/Indiana Region, Verizon Wireless. "Since the fall of 2003, usage on UK's campus has more than doubled. As customer usage increases and technology improves, we will invest more in our network here in Lexington, as well as throughout Kentucky and the country, so that our customers continue to receive the reliable service that they expect and deserve."

Activation of this new cell site is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Kentucky and across the country. Nationally, the company invests about $1 billion every 90 days to improve and expand what is already the most reliable wireless network in the United States. Approximately $25.6 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Kentucky.
