EVANSVILLE, IN — To stay ahead of its growing customer base and demand for its voice and data services, Verizon Wireless has activated two new cell sites in the greater Evansville area.

The new sites improve the company's digital network coverage and capacity in the following cities and surrounding areas:

  • Evansville
    • University of Southern Indiana campus
    • Highway 62 between Schutte Road and the Vanderburgh/Posey county line
  • Pennyrile Parkway and U.S. 41 between Henderson and Sebree, Kentucky

The new cell sites increase the strength of the Verizon Wireless network signal and increase capacity, enabling more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently. As a result, Verizon Wireless customers will experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ring tones with the company's Get It Now® services.

"During the past year in the Evansville area, our customer base has grown and the average number of minutes our customers use their wireless phones has increased, resulting in a 45 percent growth in volume on our network," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "As customer usage increases and technology improves, we will invest more in our network, so that our customers continue to receive the reliable service that they expect and deserve."

Activation of these new cell sites is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana, Kentucky and across the country. Nationally, the company invests about $1 billion every 90 days to improve and expand what is already the most reliable wireless network in the United States. Approximately $128.6 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Indiana and Kentucky.
