NEW ORLEANS, LA — In addition to all the new phones, wireless services and new content showcased at the recent CTIA show in New Orleans, telecom professionals had something else to get excited over - more jobs. In a new JobSeeker Survey conducted by TelecomCareers.net both online and at the CTIA show, over 74 percent of 619 wireless industry professionals rated the current job market as 'strong' or 'growing'.
These positive job seeker sentiments are also reflected in the growth of wireless job postings at TelecomCareers.net, the largest job site specifically focused on the telecom and wireless industries. The site has nearly doubled the number of wireless job openings posted during the same period last year, and has 40 percent more telecom jobs offered overall than a year ago. TelecomCareers.net currently has 135,000 resumes in its system, 40,000 of which are from wireless professionals.
"Wireless continues to make a lot of noise and boost the number of jobs out there," said Quinn Jones, president of TelecomCareers.net. "Continued subscriber growth and the rollout of new data services has many of our wireless clients posting new openings, and the wireless folks out there feel positive about new developments."
Other findings from the JobSeeker Survey include:
- Verizon Wireless was identified as having the reputation of best wireless company to work for, with nearly double the respondents naming Verizon over number two Cingular Wireless.
- 3G and Wi-Fi were the two leading technologies named by wireless professionals as spurring new segment growth.
- The Northeast and Southwest were named as the hottest regions for wireless jobs.
"Verizon Wireless employees have built the most successful wireless business with the most expansive, reliable wireless network and the industry's highest customer loyalty," said Martha Delehanty, vice president of human resources for Verizon Wireless. "This in turn has enabled us to invest in industry-leading compensation and benefits so that our employees can share in the company's success. Our culture encourages teamwork, embraces diversity and fosters personal development, contributing to a positive work experience. We are proud to once again be recognized as a leader in the wireless industry."
