BEDMINSTER, NJ — Today, CMP Media LLC's Network Computing announced that Verizon Wireless has been awarded Best Business Data Service for its BroadbandAccess service in the publication's 2005 Well-Connected Awards, beating out business data services of two other major wireless carriers. Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless service provider, was selected for the exceptional performance of its wireless data services for enterprise customers. The Well-Connected Awards honor the year's outstanding technology products and services and are selected by technology editors from products that have been tested and evaluated in CMP Media LLC's Network Computing labs during the past year.

Senior technology editor, Dave Molta, said in an October 14, 2004 Network Computing article which sized up the players in the marketplace that "Verizon [Wireless] can lay legitimate claim to best broadband performance, in the markets where EV-DO is available."

Developed with a range of users in mind, Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess operates on the company's Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network, giving customer a fast, convenient way to conduct business anytime, anywhere. Faster than any competing wide-area wireless technology, and with typical speeds of 400-700 kbps, BroadbandAccess customers can download a 1 Megabyte email attachment (for example, a small PowerPoint presentation or a large PDF file), or receive three digital pictures (each 400 x 600 pixels) in less than 20 seconds. Because it is backward compatible-a distinct advantage to using CDMA technology-customers who travel outside a BroadbandAccess coverage area with an EV-DO device will seamlessly switch to Verizon Wireless' existing NationalAccess network, based on 1xRTT technology.

"The Well-Connected Awards are the only industry awards given by technologists based on real-world product testing and evaluation. These awards take the pulse of the technology industry and reflect the best of what IT has to offer," said Fritz Nelson, vice president and group publisher of the Network Computing Enterprise Architecture Group.

"This is an important distinction from any other award program - the products selected in the Well-Connected Awards are unique because they have been graded with the same criteria IT professionals use to make purchasing decisions- truly the most outstanding products and services available."

"Verizon Wireless is honored with this award from Network Computing, as it is our constant goal to provide our customers with the best wireless network and best wireless experience," said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. "Our BroadbandAccess service and the EV-DO network it runs on are at the forefront of meeting the technology needs of today's business customers. The real-world usage by our business customers confirms what Network Computing has also discovered — BroadbandAccess is an exceptional broadband wireless experience, providing customers with explosively fast Internet and email access that makes them more productive."

The 2005 Well-Connected Awards winners are profiled in CMP Media LLC's Network Computing's April 28, 2005 issue. Winners and finalists were honored at a special awards ceremony on May 3, 2005 at the Network+Interop show in Las Vegas.
