EAST HADDAM, CT — In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents in Middlesex County, Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, has expanded its network with a new cell site. The new site improves coverage and capacity along Route 82 in the southern portion of East Haddam and Northern Lyme. The site also provides new coverage along portions of Routes 148, 156 and 434.

This network expansion is part of the company's aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year (more than $1 billion every 90 days) to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless voice and data services. The company invested more than $5.5 billion last year in its wireless network to add coverage and capacity, and to make available wireless data services such as Picture Messaging, TXT Messaging, and the new V CAST service which delivers crystal clear short content on-demand, 3D games and music videos to wireless phones from leading and respected news and entertainment sources and other innovative content providers.

Demand for Verizon Wireless services continued this year as the company added a first-quarter record 1.64 million net new customers. Verizon Wireless now serves 45.5 million customers nationwide and is the nation's wireless leader in customer loyalty, based on customer retention and turnover rates announced publicly by the largest wireless providers.

"Customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us because they want wireless service they can rely on," said Bob Stott, president of Verizon Wireless' New England Region. "The company's continued investment in its premier wireless network and our strong customer service focus are the drivers behind our industry-leading customer growth and financial performance."

Verizon Wireless' investment in its wireless network also is part of the company's commitment to offer customers the most reliable service available in the nation. The company's 'most reliable network' claim is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women who inspired the company's national advertising campaign. The engineers conduct more than 300,000 call attempts monthly on Verizon Wireless' and other national wireless carriers' networks while traveling over 100,000 miles a month on the most frequently traveled roadways nationwide in specially equipped, company-owned quality test vehicles.*

Verizon Wireless' high-speed BroadbandAccess data network is the fastest, widely available broadband wireless network in the nation, offering customers average speeds between 400 kbps - 700 kbps. The service is now available in many markets with expansion underway across the nation. Customers in areas where BroadbandAccess has not launched yet can use Verizon Wireless' NationalAccess data network, which offers speeds comparable to dial-up, with bursts up to 144 kbps. High-speed wireless provides customers with Internet access, access to corporate intranets and traditional email functionality via a laptop or personal digital assistants.

*Test Man Ride-Along Program Note To Editors And Reporters
Specially-equipped Verizon Wireless test vehicles simultaneously test the networks of six wireless providers, using a mobile laptop computer to generate phonically diverse "conversations."
