WOBURN, MA — Since its launch in January 2005, Verizon Wireless' high-speed EV-DO (Evolution Data-Optimized) wireless broadband network has blanketed New England, bringing the only national wide-area wireless broadband network available in the United States to mobile professionals across southern New England. In conjunction with launching several new markets from coast to coast today, Verizon Wireless also announced new pricing for BroadbandAccess of $59.99 monthly access for new and existing voice customers. Local residents can now receive this 25% savings when they experience the nation's most robust wireless broadband network.

As Verizon Wireless has expanded EV-DO coverage to more markets from coast to coast, the company can now offer a 25% savings on its BroadbandAccess service to new and existing customers with any voice plan. Because of Verizon Wireless' number of customers, network footprint and experience in deploying a national wireless broadband service, customers can take advantage of unlimited BroadbandAccess for $59.99 monthly access with a two-year customer agreement. For non-voice customers, BroadbandAccess is available for $79.99 monthly access for unlimited use with a one- or two-year customer agreement. The new pricing is available to new and existing customers through December 31, 2005.

Verizon Wireless' wireless broadband network continues to offer a rapidly growing number of businesses in New England the freedom of speed, mobility and productivity with BroadbandAccess. The company's premier service for businesses, BroadbandAccess gives mobile professionals a fast resource to help them be productive and in touch with the office and customers while traveling.

While on the road, mobile professionals are able to use their laptops to tap into applications and tasks with typical user download speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second (kbps), allowing customers to download a 1 Megabyte email attachment or receive three digital pictures (each 400 x 600 pixels) in less than 20 seconds.

BroadbandAccess runs on Verizon Wireless' EV-DO network, which began commercial operation in October 2003 in San Diego and Washington, D.C and is now the nation's only national wide-area wireless broadband network. Verizon Wireless' EV-DO network initially made its commercial debut with BroadbandAccess wireless Internet access service for business customers and mobile professionals.

Throughout New England, Verizon Wireless' EV-DO coverage area includes:

  • Massachusetts: Boston (including Route 95, Route 93, 9 and the Massachusetts Turnpike) and towns within the Route 495 beltway; North of Boston (Lawrence, Methuen, Haverhill, Merrimac and Salisbury); South of Boston (Braintree to Kingston on Route 3 and west of Kingston to Bridgewater, Raynham, Middleboro, New Bedford Westport, Fall River and Swansea as well as the Route 95 and Route 1 corridors to Providence through Cranston and Warwick, Rhode Island); and West of Boston (Westborough south along 495 to Wrentham. Verizon Wireless also maintains BroadbandAccess coverage at Logan International Airport.
  • Connecticut: Coverage includes Fairfield County, New Haven, Hartford and New London metropolitan areas. Interstates 84, 95, 91 and the Merritt Parkway are covered across the state. Additionally, service is available in and around North Thompsonville, Somers, Ellington, Willington, Ashford, Storrs, Willimantic, Colchester, Gilman, Norwich, Preston, and North Stonington. Service is also available at Bradley International Airport (BDL), Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), Groton-New London Airport (GON) as well as the Foxwoods Resort & Casino and Mohegan Sun.
  • New Hampshire: Available between Seabrook and Portsmouth on the Route 95/Route 1 corridor, building on expanded coverage in northern Massachusetts and including Greenland, Hampton, Hampton Falls, New Castle, and North Hampton. Coverage is also available at Manchester Airport.
  • Rhode Island: Available in Providence; north into Cumberland, Woonsocket, Smithfield and Johnston. South of Providence in Cranston, Warwick and south along the Route 95 corridor to the shoreline; along the Naragannset to Barrington, Bristol, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Middletown, and Newport. BroadbandAccess is also available at T.F. Green Airport.

Because EV-DO technology is backward compatible — a distinct advantage of the company's CDMA technology — customers who travel outside a BroadbandAccess coverage area with an EV-DO device will seamlessly switch to Verizon Wireless' existing NationalAccess service, where available, which runs on the company's 1xRTT network.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $4 billion annually on the build-out and enhancement of its networks since the company's inception in 2000, and last year alone it invested $5 billion, including build-out of the wireless broadband EV-DO network. In New England, Verizon Wireless invested more than $330 million in network enhancements in 2004.
