BUFFALO, NY — Verizon Wireless will present the YWCA of Niagara County with a $5,000 grant from the company's HopeLine® Foundation. The grant will be used to fund educational workshops on financial fitness, health and wellness, parenting skills, nutrition and basic home maintenance for residents of the YWCA's transitional housing units. The grant is one of 13 grants totaling $35,000 that are being awarded across Upstate New York to help organizations involved in domestic violence prevention and education introduce new programs, expand existing ones or add facilities to better serve clients.

"The YWCA of Niagara is very excited to be in partnership with Verizon Wireless in the effort to stop family violence," said YWCA chief executive officer, Kathleen Granchelli. "This grant will assist the YWCA in the provision of critical services to women and children who are attempting to escape the cycle of violence."

John Palmer, president of Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York Region, will present Granchelli with the grant Thursday, October 13th at 3:00 PM. The check presentation will take place at the Military Road Verizon Wireless Communications store.
