BEDMINSTER, NJ — John Hinshaw has been named vice president and chief information officer of Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, the company announced today.

Hinshaw, a member of the Verizon Wireless executive team and its Information Technology organization since its launch in 2000, will be responsible for the company's Information Systems portfolio and operation of its data centers and communications facilities.

"John has been a key player in the formation of the Verizon Wireless IT organization since we launched the business five years ago and has helped build an information systems infrastructure that is market-driven and focused on delivering a superior customer experience," said Denny Strigl, Verizon Wireless President and CEO. Hinshaw reports to Strigl and oversees a department that employs 2,100 Information Technology professionals. He replaces former CIO Roger Gurnani who has been promoted to president of the company's West Area business operations.

Prior to this appointment, Hinshaw was vice president-information technology for Verizon Wireless' South Area in Alpharetta, GA. He is a graduate of James Madison University of Harrisonburg, VA. He will be based at company headquarters in Bedminster, NJ.
