SOUTHFIELD, MI — Wireless phone use on Halloween in metro Detroit is as prevalent as trick-or-treating and decorating pumpkins. According to Verizon Wireless, more customers use their wireless phones on Oct. 31 to make calls to family and friends than on any other day of the year.

The company's research on calling patterns during the past several years shows that 30 percent more wireless calls are made by customers across southeast Michigan on Halloween than on a normal business day. In addition, wireless calls made on Halloween are 15 percent longer than usual.

This year, with the growing popularity of picture and video messaging, the company is prepared to handle increased call volume as holiday revelers share images of their activities.
