Consumers In Lincoln And Fremont, Nebraska, Now Can Choose Verizon Wireless' Service

LINCOLN, NE — Verizon Wireless today announced it has "flipped on the switch" for network operations in Lincoln and Fremont, Neb., offering local coverage and nationwide service plans as well as the latest wireless products and services to consumers.

The new network coverage encompasses the travel corridors along Interstate 80 from Omaha to Lincoln and along U.S. Highway 275 from Omaha to Fremont as well as within the two cities.

Verizon Wireless acquired the new market area and cell sites as part of a national transaction with Qwest Communications in 2004. The new Verizon Wireless network coverage in Lincoln and Fremont offers service to a population of more than 267,000.

Verizon Wireless has invested $7.6 million to upgrade the newly acquired cell sites to meet company standards and to conform to its CDMA 1xRTT network. All cell sites have been equipped with backup batteries, and more than 90 percent of them also have permanent generators to ensure network reliability during power outages.

"To ensure that we're providing the highest level of service to our newest customers, we have opened a Verizon Wireless Communications Store in Lincoln."

The new 2,712-square-foot store is located at Gateway Mall near the main entrance facing O Street, and includes both sales and customer service areas.
